Fast and agile SAP integration
When Royal Unibrew acquired Norway’s second largest brewery, Hansa Borg, a comprehensive SAP solution was rolled out in less than a year. The close collaboration with SOA People, as a number of Royal Unibrew employees put it here, has given the brewery group the flexibility needed to handle acquisitions and growth across borders.
SAP is a key growth engine for the beverage group Royal Unibrew. With an ambitious acquisition strategy, fast integration is essential. The key is to be able to scale quickly.
“We need an agile SAP implementation that matches our needs in a changing market. SOA People provides that flexibility. Their flexible organisation and international experience enable us to achieve fast and efficient SAP implementations,” explains Jonna Vestergaard, Head of Corporate Functions IT.
Seamless integration and collaboration
Since 2021, SOA People has been an integral part of Royal Unibrew’s SAP setup. When Royal Unibrew acquired Norway’s second largest brewery Hansa Borg, Royal Unibrew and SOA People managed to implement a comprehensive SAP solution in less than a year.
Go-live in January 2025 was followed by an intensive hypercare phase that ensured a smooth transition and seamless integration of the new business unit.
Can mobilise consultants quickly
The acquisition required tight integration of mobile applications and logistics systems. Thomas Pontoppidan, Functional Lead, praises the collaboration:
‘The Hansa Borg acquisition demonstrated that together with SOA People we can mobilise competent consultants quickly – this works much better than ad hoc solutions.’
According to Jan Juhl, also Functional Lead, SOA People’s consultants work as a natural part of the internal team:
“The business has not experienced any divisions between us in Royal Unibrew’s IT and SOA People’s consultants. This makes it possible to react quickly to changes and ensures that we all work towards common goals with high efficiency and an agile way of working.”
A strong culture with local roots
Royal Unibrew is proud of its ‘do’er culture’ based on flat structures and a collective team effort.
True to its history and deep roots in Faxe, the company has retained a unique identity in its hometown, which contributes to fast decision-making processes and an innovative approach to tasks.
“Our culture with a flat structure and fast decision-making processes is the driving force behind our ability to integrate new acquisitions effectively. We want employees with responsibility and drive – that’s the culture that drives our success, and SOA People fully understands that,” says Jonna Vestergaard.
SAP specialists of the future
To counter an ageing pool of specialists, Royal Unibrew is opening its projects to young talent from SOA People’s SAP Academy in the Netherlands. Simon Hyrpel, Functional Lead at Sales & Distribution, says:
“The young talents have a lot of energy and are willing to go the extra mile. They bring not only technical expertise, but also a fresh, innovative approach, which is crucial for future solutions.”
Ready for the future
SAP architect Sune Lystrup Andersen emphasises the value of the combination of experienced forces and young talent:
“The young consultants bring a fresh approach to SAP, and their ability to listen to user needs is invaluable. Together with the experienced colleagues, we ensure that we constantly deliver innovative and efficient solutions for the benefit of Royal Unibrew and our customers.”
A different collaboration in a demanding market
For SOA People, the collaboration with Royal Unibrew differs significantly from many other customers, says SOA People Denmark Sales Director Karina Vittrup:
“The FMCG market is extremely dynamic and places special demands on both flexibility and speed. At Royal Unibrew, we experience a rare degree of momentum, decision-making power and business understanding, which places great demands on us as a supplier – but also makes the collaboration extremely exciting and stimulating.”
Director of SAP at Royal Unibrew, Jack Madsen, states:
“We don’t just need SOA People’s skilled consultants. For us, SOA People is an agile and integrated partner that is always ready to adapt and act quickly in the changing market we operate in. This is crucial for us.”
