Development of new scanning and monitoring application

BANEDANMARK

SOA People has developed a new solution for Banedanmark consisting of two apps. These apps make it possible to scan ID cards and follow work on the Danish rail network in real time.

The challenge

Banedanmark, which is responsible for the maintenance and development of the Danish rail network, has taken another technological step towards improving the safety and efficiency of the critical infrastructure of the rail network. It is a legal requirement that everyone working on the rail network can document their qualifications, and with the implementation of a new scanning and supervision application developed by SOA People, Banedanmark has streamlined its supervision to ensure that all employees and partners working on the track have the necessary certifications.

The solution

The solution consists of two newly developed applications: A scanning application that ensures a user-friendly, fast, easy, error-free and, not least, secure scanning of the track workers’ ID cards, and a monitoring application used by Banedanmark as a central audit tool for checking the scans performed and the ongoing maintenance work. The new solution is an important tool in Banedanmark’s daily operations. The previous scanning app was plagued by technical challenges that made it unstable and inefficient. This caused frustration and wasted time among supervisors and track workers. The new scanning application solves these issues by being both faster and more reliable. When employees need to perform work on the track, their ID cards are scanned and their qualifications are automatically verified directly in Banedanmark’s SAP system.

The benefits

Increased safety on the track as it’s easier and faster to check that all employees and partners have the right qualifications for the work they need to do.

Improved efficiency and productivity by saving time and resources, scanning credentials and avoiding delays or cancelled work due to technical issues.

Higher satisfaction and motivation among employees who experience a more professional and reliable workflow, where their safety is paramount.

The new solution also makes it easier to identify when certificates are about to expire, allowing Banedanmark to act proactively and ensure that no employees are working without the right qualifications and permits.

The process ensures that all procedures are followed in accordance with current legislation and Banedanmark’s own high safety standards. At the same time, the solution’s map function gives Banedanmark a full geographical overview in real time of where in the country work is taking place and who is doing it.

In addition to benefiting Banedanmark, employees and subcontractors, the solution is a win for society as a whole, as it increases safety for the hundreds of thousands of passengers who use the Danish rail network every day.

Innovative public digitalisation

SOA People Denmark CEO Lars Bork Dylander sees the two applications and the overall solution as a good example of how digitalisation can create value for both the company and society:

“The project shows how an innovative public company can digitise processes for the greater common good. The solution not only helps Banedanmark itself, but also Banedanmark’s many important subcontractors to ensure that their employees are qualified and protected against occupational accidents. At the same time, the solution gives Banedanmark an always up-to-date overview of where in the country work is being done and whether the right professionals are performing the tasks. Of course, this is also important in terms of compliance, so Banedanmark operates a safe railway in accordance with applicable regulations for the benefit of employees and passengers.”
